What is becoming a familiar sight

Heater core that is. Replacement failed so here’s to hoping the replacement for the replacement decided to do its job for longer than a month.... I mayyyyy have nicked the first replacement on reinstallation with a screw. Oops.

Got this far in a little over an hour this morning. Practice makes perfect after all. Then a relative called and wanted to shoot guns soooo this is where it is still at. Cold beverages have been opened and productivity has halted for the day.

Cheers to all my fella Oppos out there.

Edit: just to clarify, this is the third time that I am doing this in 2020 as there was also another replacement that failed for no reason. This replacement failed due to my screw up so I’ll own that.

That’s what brought my ‘89 Camry to the end of the road. Failure of the heater core replacement. The state offered $1,000 to crush it and I took their offer. There were ~250k miles on it and the engine was leaking from every poor. It needed an engine-out tune-up with lots of gaskets. If I had a grandchild, we cold have tackled it together and they drive it home.

Ugh. That looks like a hella amount of work. Good luck.

The last shop I worked with was suspicious that my heater core might need to be replaced; I’ll let them do it if so.

Don’t replace unless it’s truly failing. You’ll have nasty steam coming out the vents or coolant on the floorboard. I think it’s $800 do have a shop do it. If they need to take your dash off for something else though it may be good preventative maintenance but don’t do it just because. It’s a pretty job  simple though. The first time it took me about six hours, the second time about five and I think this time I’ll have everything back together in four or so. It’s just really tedious.
